Final piece completes one-of-a-kind golf destination including renovated course, new clubhouse, Georgia Golf Hall of Fame, unique putting green, high-tech golf shop and restaurant all on one campus
Atlanta, Ga. – Bobby Jones Golf Course Foundation, Inc. is excited to announce the opening of the new Murray Golf House at Bobby Jones Golf Course in Atlanta. The opening of The Murray Golf House marks the completion of a three-year, comprehensive reimagining, renovation, and transformation of the historic Bobby Jones Golf Course (est. 1932) to create one of the most unique golf experiences in the U.S. The Murray Golf House joins the reversible nine-hole course, Georgia Golf Hall of Fame, Dan Yates Putting Course, Boone’s restaurant, The Ed Hoard Golf Shop, Cupp Links, and an expansive juniors’ program at the Grand Slam Golf Academy to create an unrivaled golf experience.
“At Bobby Jones, we have built on a foundation of a very unique golf course, the last design by Bob Cupp, and added a host of premier amenities that reframe the golf experience and make it more accessible and more enjoyable,” says Marty Elgison, president of the Bobby Jones Foundation. “We are delighted that the course has been so widely embraced by the city and the broader community. This new facility has helped introduce new people to the game and has provided the city with a public golf experience that’s never been available to the current generation.”
The epicenter of golf in Georgia, the Murray Golf House serves as the home for the Georgia State Golf Association and Georgia Section of the PGA and is the first-ever physical location of the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame. In its role as clubhouse for Bobby Jones Golf Course, the Murray Golf House also offers meeting and event facilities with stunning views of the golf course from both inside and outside vantage points, and houses the new Boone’s restaurant, featuring upscale, new American cuisine with panoramic views of the links.
The Georgia Golf Hall of Fame will open soon and will feature an interactive experience commemorating Georgia golf greats and their roles in the state’s rich golf history. Memorabilia and trophies will be on display, including replicas of Bobby Jones’ Grand Slam Trophies. A special room is dedicated to golf legend and club namesake Bobby Jones, and a large interactive screen will invite visitors to learn about their favorite Hall of Famers. Once completed, the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame will also be available as a banquet hall which can be reserved for special events and for parties of up to 60 people.
Also making its debut is the Dan Yates Putting Course, honoring the late Georgia Golf Hall of Fame inductee. This unique 9-hole reversible putting course is distinctly designed as a smaller compliment to the Bobby Jones Golf Course. The Dan Yates Putting Course offers a dynamic layout that is as much about enjoyment and entertainment as it is about the challenge. Located just steps from the entrance of the new Boone’s restaurant, the pair create a perfect Atlanta experience with a round on the putting green followed by a round of drinks and lunch or dinner at Boone’s.
“The Dan Yates Putting Course is unique in that you truly never play the same course twice,” said Marty Elgison, President of the Bobby Jones Golf Course Foundation. “This is an experience very few courses offer, and definitely the only one of its kind at a public course in Georgia. With its shorter time commitment – the course takes approximately 30 minutes to play – the Dan Yates Putting Course is a great option for those who have limited time but still want a fun, quality and challenging experience on the greens. The tee markers on the putting course also serve as drink holders. And, it doesn’t hurt that the restaurant is right next door, so guests can grab a cocktail or beer and play a round while waiting for their table.”
The new Ed Hoard Golf Shop, the only completely autonomous space in the building, is one of the most technologically advanced golf shops in the state of Georgia. Inside, a tech bar with Microsoft Surface tablets allow patrons to order from multiple vendors and have merchandise shipped directly to their homes. Bobby Jones Golf Course branded apparel, footwear and merchandise are available for purchase onsite and vending machines disburse golf ball sleeves and other small merchandise for those who need to quickly pick something up before their game.
Additionally, Bobby Jones Golf Course is committed to growing the game of golf through its Cupp Links course, top-notch Bandy Instructional Center and U.S. Kids Golf Academy juniors’ program that has welcomed more than 1,000 junior golfers. Novice and junior golfers learn the fundamentals of the game and more advanced skills as they progress through game-based learning at the Grand Slam Academy. The facility also includes Cupp Links, a 5-hole “wee links,” of 50-70 yards designed specifically for children under the age of 12 years old. Guests of all ages are welcome to play Cupp Links; children under the age of 18 play for free, adults can play for $10 a round or for free if they are caddying for a child under the age of 12.
“Bobby Jones was such a significant figure in golf, and a course named after him should have the same standard of excellence,” said Brian Conley, general manager of Bobby Jones Golf Course. “We are proud to add the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame, the Ed Hoard Golf Shop, Boone’s restaurant, and the Dan Yates Putting Course to the list of experiences already offered at Bobby Jones Golf Course. We are excited to welcome guests old and new to join us as we enter the next era of golf.”
