Bobby Jones Golf Course’s Lead Instructor, Justin Martin, has advanced to the 2020 PGA Professional Championship. Finishing fourth in the 2019 Georgia PGA Professional Championship, Martin qualified to play in the 2020 tournament. This Championship is known to showcase some of the finest players in the association.
The 2019 Georgia PGA Professional Championship was held at Jennings Mill Country Club in Watkinsville from October 14-15, 2019. Martin competed against 57 professionals for five qualifying spots in the tournament.
“We at Bobby Jones Golf Course are thrilled and very proud of Justin for advancing to the 2020 PGA Professional Championship,” said Brian Conley, the General Manager of Bobby Jones Golf Course. “Justin’s cutting-edge approach to golf instruction is an unparalleled asset to our guests, and we have no doubt he will excel in the 2020 tournament.”
Prior to his position at Bobby Jones Golf Course, Martin was the Director of Golf and Instruction for The First Tee of Atlanta and an assistant professional at golf facilities in Georgia and Virginia. An Atlanta native, Martin graduated from Hampton University with a degree in Sports Management and earned three team MVP awards while playing on the college golf team.
Since advancing to the 2020 Championship, Martin has visited two fitness professionals to get a full body assessment, started working with his personal swing coach, and began his training to excel in the tournament. Additionally, he will get a full professional club fitting by the lead club fitter at Bobby Jones Golf Course to ensure his equipment is fitted correctly.
“I feel extremely blessed to proceed to the 2020 PGA Professional Championship. The course was challenging, but I knew I had trained and prepared enough to exceed in the tournament,” said Justin Martin, Lead Instructor at Bobby Jones Golf Course. “I plan on taking a scouting trip to check out the golf course ahead of the tournament so that I develop a comfort level with the course prior to tournament week.”
The 2020 PGA Professional Championship will be held at the Omni Barton Creek Resort in Austin, Texas on April 26-29, 2020. The top 20 players from the championship will earn a spot into the 2020 PGA Championship that will be held at TPC Harding Park, in San Francisco, CA, May 14-17, 2020. The winner of the 2020 PGA Professional Championship will earn the Walter Hagen Cup, a spot on the PGA Cup team, as well as six PGA TOUR exemptions over the next 12 months.
