Whitney Crouse is something of an expert when it comes to golf course renovations. He is Chairman of Bobby Jones Links, which has managed nearly a dozen such jobs. Crouse said that when it comes to launching a renovation project, the biggest hurdle for most clubs is pretty obvious: Money.
“It’s the big thing,” he said. “The question is always: Can they afford to do this?”
For many clubs, the cold reality is that they can’t afford not to do it, Crouse said.
“You can only postpone improvements for so long,” he said. “If you put it off, it’s only a matter of time before you’re no longer competitive.”
