Meet Justin Collett | Superintendent at Osprey Cove

1.     When did you join Bobby Jones Links and why?  

 I joined the team at Bobby Jones Links in October of 2019 after hearing of the opening for Golf Course Superintendent at The Club at Osprey Cove.  The position offered a new adventure and was the ideal situation for my family.

2.     Where did you grow up? Tell us about it.

 I grew up on nearby St. Simons Island, but I spent many of my earlier years in Pinehurst, NC. St. Simons Island is an excellent place to grow up with the beaches nearby.   I went onto complete my turf grass management degree at Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College in Tifton,GA.

3.     What are your passions outside of work?

I love playing baseball with my son and all things sports related.  I am an avid traveler and love visiting new places around the world.

4.     What do you enjoy most about the club business?

 Working outside and managing the ever-changing factors that go into creating a great golf course. Golf courses are always changing, creating new challenges and it is the job of the golf course superintendent to adapt and push the course to prosper.

5.     Who inspires you in your life and why?

 My family inspires me to be the best superintendent I can be, without their love and encouragement I would not be where I am.   I learned from my father at a young age to be a hard worker and from my mother how to be loving and caring.

6.     What’s the craziest thing you have ever done?

 I stayed on St. Simons Island through Hurricane Irma, it was pretty crazy, as the house would shake and creak as the 70-80 mph winds were blowing.  It probably wasn’t the smartest thing I have done.

7.     You’ve been with Bobby Jones Links less than a year. What has stood out about your experience with them?  

The biggest surprise has been how great all the people are that work for Bobby Jones Links and the family atmosphere that has been created.  There is also plethora of talent to learn from.

8.     What is your favorite movie? Why?

 I really don’t have a favorite movie, but my favorite genre is definitely war movies like Platoon, Apocalypse Now, and Saving Private Ryan.

9.     If you could have one superpower, what would you choose?

 If I could have one superpower it would be being able to fly.  I would never have to sit in traffic again.

10.  What’s still on your bucket list?

Visiting Lima, Peru and dining at Central and Maido.  Central and Maido are both in the Top 10 Best Restaurants in the world.
