On April 12, 1861 Confederate forced fired upon the Union Controlled island of Fort Sumpter. The shores of Patriots Point Links witnessed roaring flames, thick smoke, and popping rifle shells off in the distance. This was the start of the most deadly conflict in American history, pitting country man against countryman. A stone's throw away from the golf course is a ferry docked to take daily excursions back and forth to Fort Sumpter. You cannot miss it driver over the Ravenel Birdge to Mount Pleasant. Just look for the USS Yorktown.
