The Champions Club, a private lifestyle and golf club located in Ooltewah, Tennessee, is excited to announce the official rebranding and renaming of the club to The Ooltewah Club. The rebrand celebrates the recent completion of a more than $1 million renovation to the facilities and coincides with the new ownership and management company’s commitment to the continued improvement of the club.
Overseen by Bobby Cupp Jr., course architect and son of the world-renowned golf course architect, Bob Cupp Sr., The Ooltewah Club underwent a more than $1 million renovation to the golf course. Renovations to the course include new TifEagle Bermuda Grass on all 18 holes, rebuilt and recontoured bunkers, new tee complexes, irrigation repairs and enhancements, and extensive cart path repairs and re-routing. Additionally, new quality maintenance equipment, including new range balls and practice facility amenities, new golf carts, and a new beverage cart have been purchased to ensure a better member and guest experience at The Ooltewah Club. These enhancements are supplemented by the club’s renovations in 2019 to the clubhouse and dining facilities.
“This rebrand coincides with the substantial renovations to our facilities and will allow us to maximize the growth potential of The Ooltewah Club,” said Derek Montecalvo, General Manager of The Ooltewah Club. “Our guests can expect the same level of service, quality and comradery that is synonymous with a private club, while also enjoying an environment that is fun, relaxed and conducive to making lifelong memories. We are thrilled to invite members and guests to experience the revamped Ooltewah Club.”
As part of the enhancements, The Ooltewah Club is also excited to welcome Christopher Owen as the new club superintendent. Owen joined the Champions Club team a few months ago. Prior to joining The Ooltewah Club, Owen served as the Senior Assistant Superintendent at The Governors Club in Brentwood, Tennessee. In addition to an extensive knowledge of all aspects related to agronomics on the golf course, Owen brings to this position experience with golf course grow-ins, renovations, and construction projects. After graduation from Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in Plant and Soil Science, Owen spent four years at The Golf Club of Georgia as the Assistant Superintendent before moving to the Frederica Golf Club and later the Richland Country Club. In addition to his experience as an assistant superintendent, Owen has more than ten years of experience with tournament preparation and a strong understanding of what is needed to accomplish successful events.
“We are honored to have Chris Owen join The Ooltewah Club family,” said Mike Nolen, Vice President of Operations at Bobby Jones Links. “Owen has been a vital part of overseeing the enhancements at the golf course at The Ooltewah Club, and with his expertise, I have no doubt that the club will become one of the best private clubs in the Chattanooga area.”
The full refreshed golf course at The Ooltewah Club will be re-open for members beginning September 26. For more information about membership offerings at The Ooltewah Club and to schedule a tour, please contact Membership Director Kelsey Depies, at Kelsey@TheOoltewahClub.com, or 423-238-6812.
