Scooters Now an Option for Golfers at Bay Point’s Nicklaus Course

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) -Scoot over golf carts. If you’re planning to play a round of golf at Bay Point Golf club but want to switch things up, you may consider taking a new ride. “We just introduced our first Finn Scooter at Bay Point Golf Club.” says Ryan Mulvey, the Golf General Manager at Bay Point. The 75 pound bike can be taken places on the course you couldn’t go in a normal cart. “It puts a lot less pressure on the turf grass out there, so you can actually drive the bike anywhere out there on the golf course,” adds Mulvey. “Obviously, except for the greens and sand traps and stuff.” The bike works a lot like a motorized bicycle. Ryan says the shocks on the back make the ride smoother, and it doesn’t accelerate too fast with a top speed of 20 mph. “It makes the experience while you’re out there golfing a heck of a lot more fun, and everybody who’s been on it so far, the first thing that happens is they get a big smile on their face.” A few years ago, the club introduced golf boards, but Ryan is hoping these bikes will gain a little more popularity. “It’s just way easier to ride. The golf boards were really cool, but required more of your body to actually steer the vehicle, where this, if you know how to ride a bicycle, you can ride this.” Ryan also says there’s some advantages to taking the scooter rather than a cart. “One of the things, where if you are waiting on the group in front of you, you can kind of drive around all through the fair way, and kind of tool around on the bike which is just a ton of fun.” Mulvey says Bay Point is the only club in the area with the scooters, saying you would have to go as far as Atlanta or South Florida to play on one. He says Bay Point only has one right now. More will arrive in the coming weeks.
