Meet Chris Owen | Superintendent at The Champions Club  

1.    When did you join Bobby Jones Links and why?

I joined Bobby Jones Links earlier this year in May after learning about the Superintendent position from a friend. The chance to become a Superintendent was a career goal and proved to be in a great location for my family.

2.    Where did you grow up? Tell us about it.

I grew up in Franklin Tennessee, which is just south of Nashville. It was a great town and I still have many close friends who still live there. Growing up, Nashville was actually a small town and it has been wild to see the growth of Nashville the past few years.

3.    What are your passions outside of work?

Outside of work I love to spend time with family, play golf and lift weights. The past few years I have actually competed in some power lifting competitions. In 2019 I won the GCSAA golf classic in San Diego and finished 2nd this year in Orlando.

4.    What do you enjoy most about the club business?

I love getting up every day and facing a new challenge.I also enjoy being able to interact daily with members and guests. Being a Superintendent allows me to be outside every day and the opportunity to create the best turf conditions I can for the club.

5.    Who inspires you in your life and why?

I would have to say that my family inspires me to not only be a great superintendent, but father and husband as well. Knowing they believe in me helps push me to want to be the best.

6.    What’s the craziest thing you have ever done?

I previously worked at a course where we had a tornado come right through the property and near our shop. Instead of heading for cover, I tried to close the shop bay doors and the wind picked me up off the ground as I was pulling the door down. Scariest thing I have ever been through.

7.    You’ve been with Bobby Jones Links less than a year. What has stood out about your experience with them?

How Bobby Jones Links truly cares for their employees. They treat employees with great respect and you always feel like you are a part of their family. Within the company they have plenty of great people you can reach out to for help if ever needed.

8.    What is your favorite movie? Why?

Any James Bond Films. I love the excitement and suspense that those movies provide.

9.    If you could have one superpower, what would you choose?

I would have to say time travel. I could go back in time to see how life was years earlier or go ahead in time and know what to expect coming up.

10.  What’s still on your bucket list?

To play golf at St. Andrews and Augusta National. These two courses will always be on the top of my list.
