The People of Bobby Jones Links

Meet John Sorrells | Culture & Experiences Coordinator | Bobby Jones Golf Course

1. How long have you worked with Bobby Jones Links?

I will have been with Bobby Jones Golf Course two years next month!

2. Where did you grow up? Tell us about it.

I grew up in Memphis, TN. My family had deep roots as did the city of Blues. Life was about GREAT Blues music, Elvis, the Mighty Mississippi River, storm-drain fighting and the best Dry Rub BBQ in the WORLD!

3. What are your passions outside of work?

Music, woodworking, cooking, coaching, sports.

4. What does the word family mean to you?

The freedom and unthreatened gift of just being me.

5. Who inspires you in your life and why?

My wife and kids. I can’t be idle for them or me.

6. What’s the craziest thing you have ever done?

I jumped out of a perfectly good plane and landed to tell about it.

7. You’ve been with Bobby Jones Links for two years now. What has stood out about your experience with them?

In my experience, they let the pros be the pros. Hire the right people and let them do their thing. The autonomy Brian Conley supports is a direct result and is also why the team (BJGC) has been able to do amazing things in just a few years!

8. What is your favorite movie? Why?

A River Runs Through It. The story line mimics a lot of my childhood and who doesn’t love fly fishing in Montana.

9. If you could have one superpower, what would you choose?

Invisibility (BUT, to be able to turn it on and off). Do you know how much scoop you could get by not being seen? What goes on behind closed doors could finally be answered! The tricks you could play? You could literally scare the heck out of people…not to mention go anywhere in the world you wish! Area 51, the Vatican secret library, Fort Knox or any bank vault.

10. What’s still on your bucket list?

Hawaii. I have been to 49 states and Hawaii has eluded me. I also have two last MLB Stadiums to complete the 25 year journey for all 30 stadiums (which includes Montreal and all original stadium’s before rebuilds).

The autonomy Brian Conley supports is a direct result and is also why the team (BJGC) has been able to do amazing things in just a few years!
